Linkin Park
Linkin Park is a rock band from Agoura Hills, California. They formed in 1996, and have since sold more than fifty million albums and won two Grammies.
The band has released three albums, plus a collaboration album with rapper Jay-Z, various experimental tracks, side projects, a remix album and charity releases.
The first studio album released by Linkin Park came out in October 2000 and was titled 'Hybrid Theory', a name that had been used for the band before settling on Linkin Park. The album was a smash success and surprisingly is that bands most successful record to date. The album has been certified diamond (10 times platinum) in the US and has sold around 25 million copies worldwide! 'Hybrid Theory' contains four singles, of which 'In The End' made the top 10 in various charts, remaining at number one in the Modern Rock Tracks Chart in the US for five weeks.
In 2002, the band released a remix album based on 'Hybrid Theory' which also featured new unheard tracks. The album, called 'Reanimation', was recored whilst the band were on tour in 2001 and brings a strong rap and hip-hop element into the songs. Remixed versions of songs have also been performed in Linkin Parks live performances, most commonly 'P5hng Me A*wy'.
Their second album, 'Meteora', was released in March 2003. The record was again hugely popular and topped charts in both the US and the UK. It features five singles, each of which reached number one, and the most popular worldwide are 'Faint', 'Somewhere I belong' and 'Breaking The Habit'.
November 2004 saw Linkin Park team up with rapper Jay-z to record a collaboration album called 'Collision Course'. The record contains six mashup's of songs from both artists. Two singles were released; 'Numb/encore' and 'Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You'.
Linkin Parks third album is called 'Minutes To Midnight' and was released May 2007. The record has sold over 4 million copies to date and debuted at number one in 16 different countries around the world. The first single 'What I've Done' has reached number one in this country, the US and Europe and the current single 'Bleed It Out' is already storming up the charts. This latest album from Linkin Park is a break away from their previous Nu-Metal sound and looks likely to achieve further singles in the future.
